TWOFEW is a five-piece piano rock outfit based in Phoenix, Arizona. This powerhouse band offers a new flavor of piano rock with unique playing styles, rich undertones, vibrant and immersive guitars, deep backing bass and smooth, syncopated drumming. It's topped off with one-of-a-kind vocals, memorable melodies and eclectic lyrics that make this group stand out. TWOFEW is comprised of three family members, Michael Lazar (vocals/piano), David Lazar (guitar) and Danielle Lazar (bass), accompanied by Mike Liebbe (guitar) and John Grigsby (drums).
Most recently, they have released their new single titled, “The War”, onto all digital streaming platforms. Hello, TWOFEW! Thank you for joining us today. I’d love to know, what was the inspiration behind your group’s name?
Great question. Previous to this band, my wife and I were in a band called Complicate/Simple – I was the frontman/guitarist, she was bassist. The band voted to kick her out (I was outnumbered in the vote), and we started TWOFEW as a piano rock outfit. We called it that because we were two few members shy of a traditional four-piece band.
What three words would you say best summarize your band’s musical style?
Piano rock ‘n’ roll.
Tell me about your recent single titled, “The War” -- what was the inspiration behind writing it?
"The War" was released in the current state of events and is reflective of them in some sense. However, it was written by my brother, my wife, and I about 6 months previous to current events. It is also intended to describe a mental metaphoric state of being at war; a third-person perspective of how it feels when we think our world is crashing down on us.
What other notable bands influence your band’s music the most?
The Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, The Fray, and Audio Slave.
What is the next “big thing” the world can expect from TWOFEW?
We are up to some awesome stuff. We are dropping a sequel to "The War" in a month or so called "When We Save The World". After that, we’re heading to LA to cut tracks with multi-Grammy award winning engineer, Brendan Dekora (he mixed and mastered "The War"; and will be mixing and mastering "When We Save the World" -- see brendandekora.com for more information) at Foo Fighter’s secret Studio 606 – we are pretty excited about that!
