INTERVIEW

Hello, James! I’m curious, when did you first discover your passion for music?

James: Since I was a young boy I was surrounded by music. My dad was a musician. I would see him playing guitar and saxophone in the lounge room. My parents brought me a keyboard when I was four, and I just loved playing around on it. When I was eight, my parents signed me up for piano lessons. As I was growing up, I always wanted to be in a band. Electronic music always excited me. At twelve years-old, I started playing the keyboard at church, and in my early 20's, I became a solo artist. Music has just been part of my upbringing with many relatives playing musical instruments. Nana was a piano teacher. Cousins play guitar or piano. Sister is a singer. I now run my music school teaching in schools and my studio JP Sounds. www.jpsoundmusic.com in Melbourne Australia.

Tell me about your recent new album titled, "Remix Sessions".. what is something very special about it?

James: "Remix Sessions" is almost two years in the making. It started when I was asked by a Facebook group Live Electronic Musicians of Melbourne to do a remix swap with another artist. The songs would then go on an album to raise money for charity. I was teamed up with NSW group Purple Zain. Purple Zain remixed my first ever song, "Neon Nights". From there, I loved the experience I started approaching other artists. I started my own YouTube show called Infinity Sessions where I would interview electronic artists and play their music videos. From networking, I asked artists like Spaceman 1981 and ZXSP if they like to be part of the album. Eleven artists have taken part in the album. The album hit 119% on Kickstarter in Dec last year and enabled me to raise money to get the release on CD and pay for mastering. More info is attached.

In your opinion, what separates you from other artists in your genre?

James: When I started as a solo artist, I had a different style from what I am today. I was more Pop Rock. I played an acoustic guitar and sang. I felt there were so many singer-songwriters like this. Keyboard/synth was my strength and felt I wanted to dive into that genre. I like to think I'm unique as I like to blend of a-lot of electronic styles together with Synth-wave, 80s vibe, & Dance. My performances live are very energetic and I put on a glow show with my performances as I have neon lights on my setup and clothing. I even remix movie theme songs and are a hit. Like James Bond, Terminator, Power Ranges, and Mission Impossible to name a few.
