Hello, Yayo Brinks! Thank you for joining us today. I’d love to know, when did you first discover your passion for music?
Yayo: My passion for music developed early on at a young age. I'm not sure when exactly, but I can vividly remember being in my Grandma Debbie's living room writing away and bringing it to her to see what she thought about it. Needless to say, she and I both knew I was going to be something big. She loves telling the story about when I was little and told her, "When I grow up and get famous you can come live with me and I'll take care of you... You just have to wash the dishes, mow the lawn, walk the dogs, and watch my kids!" It still makes us laugh to this day.
What three words would you say best summarize your music as a whole?
Yayo: I'd say influential, encouraging, and unprecedented.
What is your interpretation of being an artist? What does it mean to you?
Yayo: Being an artist holds a very powerful role and it should be taken seriously. Being able to really grab people by their hearts and connect with them through music is a blessing and I'm thankful to be able to share that with the world. In todays day and age, people really look up to artists and go as far as imitating what they see them do and say. It's crucial to set a positive example, be a role model, and instill quality advice and information into the world as a whole.
You have some really great songs on Spotify! I’d like to know, do you have a favorite song that you’ve released thus far?
Yayo: My favorite song released would be Change.
Tell me about your upcoming new single titled, “Cruising”.. what is something very special about it?
Yayo: Cruising is filled with all those deep, late night cruising vibes. It was the first song I started experimenting with different sounds on.
Do you feel like music has always been your calling?
Yayo: I feel like music has definitely been my calling. I just always felt something in my heart and in my gut telling me ever since I was a kid that I was going to be extraordinary.
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… in what ways has music helped you?
Yayo: Music has been an escape for me. I've never done well with expressing how I feel in the real world, but for some reason I could put it all into words once I heard a beat and my pencil hit the paper. I often cry when I'm writing because it's so powerful. It's helped me to understand and even reminded me that I have a true purpose.
Who would you say is your number one musical influence?
Yayo: I'll be honest, I don't really have a musical influence.
In your opinion, what separates you from other artists in your genre?
Yayo: I'm sending a message. With the upcoming generations it's important to feed them positivity and provide them with healthy coping skills so we can put a further dent in correcting toxic behaviors, relationships, etc. The future depends on all of us. Change and growth are both important and necessary. I want people to be comfortable with letting it out and letting it go to elevate. All at the same time I don't want people to give a f*** about what people say and to be nothing but themselves!
What is the next “big thing” the world can expect from you?
Yayo: The world can expect a genuine look into the world of Yayo Brinks and see just how amazing following along with this journey will be.
