INTERVIEW

Hello, Stephanie! I'd love to know, when did you first discover your passion for music?

Stephanie: My new song, "Been Through", was written from an outside perspective of a close friends abusive relationship. She doesn’t recognize that she’s being controlled to extreme limits, and is not even able to leave her house for more than an hour. It’s hard to see the light when you’re so used to the abuse, that you don’t recognize it as that anymore. It takes a lot to be able to walk away for yourself. You will also lose yourself in the process, but you find an among brand new person that can face the world alone.

What word would you say best summarizes who you are/your music?

Stephanie: Amazing.

Tell me about your latest music release titled, “Been Through”.. what was the inspiration behind it?

Stephanie: Music is my therapy. It helps with my anxiety and I make sense of what’s going on in my world subconsciously before the lyrics start to flow. It’s also a huge outlet to tell your story, discuss important issues and relate to others.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… in what ways has music helped you?

Stephanie: Without music the best moments of my life wouldn’t be possible.

How do you want your music to help other people?

Stephanie: I want my music to help people feel motivated and strong. I talk a lot about overcoming obstacles in my upcoming album, and I made it a point to use my life and spread it all on the table. That was really hard to do, being as private as I am.

What would you say is your songwriting process?

Stephanie: I write my songs to the track as I’m in the studio. I come up with a profound line during the day and think about what hurdles I’m facing, and a story develops. When I start to freestyle and fit it to the track, the song magically comes together with its story. It doesn’t always happen this way, though. Songs also come to me in my dreams. I wake up the next day excited to hit the studio in case I forget, and sometimes my imagination takes me to a future me in concert and I’m watching myself front stage sing to one of the tracks I’m sampling. It’s so unreal, it feels like I’m plagiarizing my imagination because I have no idea how I came up with it.

Who are the first music artists that inspired you?

Stephanie: The first music artist that inspired me would be Avril Lavigne. I used to blast her song, "Sk8r Boi", in my room and just jump on the bed with the brush in my hand singing along. She gave me a lot of confidence through her music and has inspired some of my old songs that no one’s heard. Madonna was another huge influence. There’s something about confident, powerful women in an industry run mostly by men that’s inspiring to me.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

Stephanie: My idyllic life as an artist is being able to perform all over the world and meet new people and help them through my music follow their dreams also.

What is the next "big thing" the world can expect from you?

Stephanie: I will be releasing a new single in the first week of April. I haven’t decided which song it will be, but it’s about only having a limited amount of time to accomplish the goal because life’s short so start now.

Where will you be performing next?

Stephanie: I will be performing in Miami once I set a release date on my album. As of right now, I’m very pre occupied recording in studio but as soon as I’m done with my project, I’m excited to go live!
