Sun Uther Wahn tells intricate and immersive stories through his music

Norman Williams, best known by his artist name, Sun Uther Wahn, is a talented musician and songwriter currently based in Tampa, Florida. Born in Japan and raised in Mississippi, the epicenter of Country music, Sun Uther Wahn has spent the past forty years carefully crafting his ambient rock fusion sound as well as working on other musical projects in the South-east, USA.

His upcoming concept album, "Like Trees", takes Sun Uther Wahn back to his roots with more traditional song structures and intricate lyrical themes, taking inspiration from the stories of his grandfather and Sun Uther Wahn’s own journey from despair to hope and love. Two new albums are set to be released this year - one is completely experimental and ambient, and the other will be a continuation of new songs.

INTERVIEW

Hello, Sun Uther Wahn! I'd love to know, when did you first discover your passion for music?

Sun: I discovered my passion for music at three years-old when I discovered that you could draw attention by banging out a rhythm on a cardboard box with sticks.

What three words would you say best summarize you/your music?

Sun: Connection with others.

Tell me about your latest music release, "Stories, Prayers, and Anthems".. what was the inspiration behind it?

Sun: The main thought throughout recording this album was reminiscing my grandpa’s stories and what they mean to me, even fifty years after he has passed on. That was closely attached to the relationship I have with my grandson. Stories are the oldest way to pass knowledge. This album is more of something to leave for my grandkids and daughters. It’s the good part of me I want to leave behind.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… in what ways has music helped you?

Sun: Being an Enneagram type four, it is crucial for me to create and connect. Whether it be writing in my journal at 4 am or just arranging some sticks or pebbles to leave a message to say, "I love you", to whoever passes by next. Music is my ideal medicine and health tonic.

What is the next "big thing" the world can expect from you?

Sun: I am planning on releasing two more albums this year. One of ambient and experimental and one with more traditional songs. But that not anything I would call big. The world should expect to find their own Big right in front of them; maybe right under their feet or at the tip of their nose. That would be the next big thing to expect from you and from me. I hope to set the example by living that out in front of one being at a time. I hope we all find the “IT” or the “ WHO” that leaves us all with the Biggest Of All Things. I hope that makes sense.. if not, I will try and convey in a small song.. thank you. Shalom, Ahava and Beracha!!!
